Optimism is an Ethereum Layer 2 that pioneered the optimistic rollup approach and created the OP Stack — the open-source framework powering Base, Mode, and dozens of other L2 chains forming the “Superchain.”
History
Founded by Karl Floersch, Jinglan Wang, and Kevin Ho. Originally launched as OVM in 2021. The OP Stack (2022) was a pivotal decision — making Optimism’s technology open-source and available for anyone to launch their own L2. The Superchain Vision
