Yes, Fidelity sells crypto directly. Fidelity Crypto lets US customers buy, sell and hold bitcoin, ether, litecoin and solana, plus Fidelity’s own dollar stablecoin, through Fidelity Digital Assets, and a separate Fidelity Crypto for IRAs account does the same inside a retirement account. As of October 2026 Fidelity charges a 1% fee on each crypto buy and sell, with no account or custody fee. You can withdraw coins from a regular Fidelity Crypto account to your own wallet, but not from a crypto IRA. Here is how it works if you already bank or invest with Fidelity.
Key takeaways
- Fidelity Crypto supports BTC, ETH, LTC, SOL and the Fidelity Digital Dollar (FIDD) stablecoin as of October 2026, subject to state availability.
- Fidelity Digital Assets charges 1% on crypto buys and sells; orders start at $1 and there is no holding fee.
- Crypto IRAs come in Roth, Traditional and Rollover versions, are not offered in California or Oregon, and cannot send or receive coins.
- Holding a spot crypto ETF in a Fidelity IRA is an alternative with an annual expense ratio instead of a per-trade fee.
Does Fidelity sell crypto? Yes, with limits
Fidelity’s crypto trading runs through Fidelity Digital Assets, a separate company in the Fidelity group, rather than through your regular brokerage account. That has three practical consequences for an existing customer:
- You open a separate account. A Fidelity Crypto account sits alongside your brokerage or cash management account and is funded from a linked account. It shows up in the same login and app, but the crypto holdings are not brokerage securities.
- The menu is short. Fidelity’s trading-basics help page lists Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Solana (SOL) and Fidelity Digital Dollar (FIDD). Solana was added on 23 October 2025; before that, only BTC, ETH and LTC were offered. You will not find hundreds of altcoins.
- Eligibility rules apply. You must be a US citizen over 18 living in a state where Fidelity Digital Assets can serve customers. Fidelity says the retail account is available in the US with exceptions, and not in Guam, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands or outside the US. Oregon residents cannot buy, sell or deposit SOL. Use Fidelity’s “check availability by state” tool for your address.
Trading runs 23 hours a day, from 1 a.m. to midnight Eastern time, with occasional maintenance until 4 a.m. You can place market orders or limit orders; Fidelity’s help page says limit orders expire at midnight ET if they do not fill.
From Fidelity login to first purchase
- Log in at fidelity.com (typed yourself) or the official Fidelity app, and choose to open a Fidelity Crypto account.
- Confirm eligibility and accept the Fidelity Digital Assets agreements.
- Link a funding account and move dollars in.
- Pick the coin, enter a dollar amount (minimum $1) and choose market or limit.
- Review the estimated fee and execution price before submitting. Fidelity notes that execution prices may differ from the reference prices shown.

| Funding | Linked funding account | Dollars from a linked Fidelity brokerage IRA with the same registration type |
| Transfer coins in or out | Yes, on supported networks | No |
| Trading fee | 1% per buy or sell (FIDD bought or sold with USD exempt) | 1% per buy or sell |
| Opening or custody fee | None | None |

The IRA version works through a pairing. Contributions go into a normal Fidelity brokerage IRA in dollars, then move to the matching crypto IRA, where you buy coins. If you do not already have the right brokerage IRA, Fidelity opens one for you during setup. Contribution limits, the five-year rule and other Roth mechanics work as they do for any IRA; our crypto Roth IRA guide explains the tax side in more depth.
Fidelity crypto fees and supported coins
As of October 2026, Fidelity’s help pages state that Fidelity Digital Assets charges “a 1% fee for buy and sell transactions in Fidelity Crypto accounts”, that purchases and sales of FIDD with US dollars are not charged that fee, and that fees are subject to change. There is no fee to open the account or to hold crypto in it, and no minimum initial investment.
Earlier Fidelity materials described the cost as a spread of up to 1% built into the execution price, so older reviews may use that wording. Either way, the practical effect is similar: a round trip (buy, then later sell) costs about 2% of the amounts traded, before any price movement.
| Cost item | Fidelity Crypto, as stated October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Buy or sell BTC, ETH, LTC, SOL | 1% of the trade |
| Buy or sell FIDD with USD | No 1% fee |
| Minimum order | $1 |
| Largest single order | $5,000,000 for BTC, ETH and FIDD; $2,000,000 for SOL; $1,000,000 for LTC |
| Custody or account fee | None |
| Withdrawing coins | Blockchain network fee, deducted from the amount sent |
FIDD is Fidelity’s dollar-backed stablecoin. It is the one asset Fidelity says you can trade without the 1% fee, and it is a distinct product from the coins; it is mentioned here only because it appears on the menu.
Can you move crypto out of Fidelity?
For a regular Fidelity Crypto account, yes. Fidelity began rolling out crypto transfers in 2025, and its “Withdrawing crypto” help page now explains how to send coins to an external wallet. The rules worth knowing before you try:
- Layer 1 networks only. BTC on Bitcoin, ETH and FIDD on Ethereum mainnet, LTC on Litecoin and SOL on Solana. Sending to an address on another network, such as an Ethereum layer 2, can mean permanent loss.
- Address book and waiting period. You add the destination address first, stating whether it belongs to you or a third party (with their name and country). Fidelity applies a 48-hour activation period before you can withdraw to a newly added address, a useful brake if your login is ever compromised.
- Network fees. The fee is taken from the amount sent, so very small withdrawals may not cover it.
- Daily limit. Fidelity describes an advanced withdrawal limit of up to $25,000 per day that you can enable.
- Test first. Fidelity itself recommends sending a small test amount and confirming it arrives before sending the rest. Blockchain transfers cannot be reversed.
Crypto IRAs are different: Fidelity states that crypto cannot be transferred to or from Fidelity Crypto for IRAs. If you want coins in a wallet you control, a taxable account is the only Fidelity route, and any sale inside the IRA stays inside the IRA. Our crypto IRA comparison covers providers that handle this differently.
Fidelity crypto IRA or a bitcoin ETF in the same account
Most Fidelity customers who want crypto in a retirement account face this choice. A spot bitcoin ETF, such as Fidelity’s own FBTC, trades like a stock in your existing brokerage IRA. Third-party fund data in 2026 listed FBTC’s expense ratio at 0.25% a year; check Fidelity’s fund page for the current figure. For the full list of crypto ETFs, see our hub of bitcoin guides on ETFs, IRAs and treasuries rather than this page.
| Direct coins in a Fidelity crypto IRA | Spot ETF in a Fidelity brokerage IRA | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost structure | 1% per buy and per sell; no holding fee | Annual expense ratio charged inside the fund; ETF trades at Fidelity are commission-free online |
| What you own | The coin, held by Fidelity Digital Assets for you | Fund shares; the fund holds the coin |
| Trading hours | 23 hours a day, seven days a week | Stock market hours |
| Separate account needed | Yes, paired with a brokerage IRA | No |
| State limits | Not in California or Oregon | Generally available where the brokerage IRA is |
A rough way to think about it, using illustrative numbers only: on a $10,000 position, buying and later selling through the crypto IRA costs about $200 in trading fees regardless of how long you hold, while a fund with a 0.25% expense ratio costs about $25 for each year held, plus small trading spreads. Frequent traders pay more with direct coins; buy-and-hold investors pay more with the ETF only after many years. Our explainer on how bitcoin ETFs work covers creation, custody and tracking in more detail. Vanguard customers face a different set of options; see Vanguard’s crypto ETF policy.
Custody and safety at Fidelity Digital Assets
Fidelity Digital Assets has offered institutional crypto custody since 2018 and holds the coins for Fidelity Crypto customers. On 12 December 2025 the OCC conditionally approved its conversion from a New York state trust company into a national trust bank, Fidelity Digital Assets, National Association, with planned activities including custody, trade execution and a GENIUS Act-compliant stablecoin. A law-firm review in August 2026 described final approval as still pending; check the OCC’s records for the current status.
What that does and does not mean for you:
- Crypto at Fidelity is not FDIC-insured and is not covered by SIPC the way brokerage securities are.
- Your login is the weak point. Use a strong unique password and app-based two-factor authentication, and type fidelity.com yourself rather than clicking emailed or texted links.
- The 48-hour address activation and daily withdrawal limits add friction for thieves as well as for you.
- Coins left at any custodian depend on that firm’s controls. Withdrawing to your own wallet shifts that risk to your own key management.

FAQ
Does Fidelity have a crypto Roth IRA?
Yes. Fidelity Crypto for IRAs offers Roth, Traditional and Rollover versions. You fund a matching Fidelity brokerage IRA in dollars, then move money to the crypto IRA to buy BTC, ETH, LTC or SOL. As of October 2026 it is not available in California or Oregon, and coins cannot be transferred into or out of the account.
What are Fidelity crypto fees?
As of October 2026, Fidelity Digital Assets charges a 1% fee on crypto buy and sell transactions, with no fee to open the account or to hold crypto. Buying or selling the FIDD stablecoin with dollars is exempt from the 1% fee. Withdrawals to external wallets carry a blockchain network fee. Fidelity says fees are subject to change, so check the trade preview.
Is there a Fidelity crypto wallet?
Fidelity Crypto is a custodial account, not a self-custody wallet: Fidelity Digital Assets holds the keys. From a regular Fidelity Crypto account you can send coins to your own wallet on supported layer 1 networks after a 48-hour address activation period. Crypto IRA holdings cannot be withdrawn as coins.
Can I buy solana on Fidelity?
Yes. Fidelity added Solana on 23 October 2025 across its retail and IRA crypto accounts, alongside bitcoin, ether and litecoin. Availability depends on your state; Fidelity’s help pages say Oregon residents cannot buy, sell or deposit SOL. The 1% trading fee applies, and the largest single SOL order is $2,000,000.
