Most people asking how to buy Canton Coin expect an ERC-20 they can drop into MetaMask. It is not one. CC is the native asset of the Canton Network’s Global Synchronizer, so you buy it on an exchange (Kraken is the main US option as of October 2026; Coinbase does not list it) and, if you want it off the exchange, send it to a wallet built for Canton, such as Console Wallet, Bron, Loop or Ledger Wallet. This guide covers the venues, the wallet side and the copycat tokens that exploit the confusion.
Key takeaways
- On 26 October 2026, CoinGecko showed about 39.9 billion CC in circulation and a market cap of roughly $4.0 billion.
- Kraken offers CC/USD to US customers; Bybit, OKX, KuCoin, Gate, Bitget, MEXC, Upbit and Bithumb serve other regions.
- CC has no Ethereum contract. Any “Canton” or “CC” token you find on Ethereum, BNB Chain or Solana is not the asset the Canton Network issues.
- Receiving CC requires a Canton party ID, created by a Canton wallet, rather than a 0x address.
- The Canton Network says there was no pre-mine and no venture allocation; new CC is minted as rewards and burned to pay network fees.
How to buy Canton Coin in October 2026
Canton is the privacy-focused network originally developed by Digital Asset and used by banks and market infrastructure firms to settle tokenized assets. Our Canton Network explainer covers the technology, the Super Validators and the institutions involved; here we focus on getting the coin.
The table below combines CoinGecko’s ticker list from 26 October 2026 with the exchanges the Canton Network itself names in its official guide to wallets and exchanges (Bybit, Gate, Kraken, KuCoin and MEXC). It is a lookup aid, not a ranking.
| Exchange | Pairs seen on CoinGecko | Region | Named in Canton’s official guide? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken | CC/USD, EUR, USDT, USDC | US (most states), UK, EU | Yes |
| Bybit | CC/USDT, USDC | Global, not US | Yes |
| KuCoin | CC/USDT | Global, not US | Yes |
| Gate | CC/USDT | Global, not US | Yes |
| MEXC | CC/USDT, USDC | Global, not US | Yes |
| OKX | CC/USDT, USDC, EUR, TRY | Global and EEA, not US | No |
| Bitget | CC/USDT | Global, not US | No |
| Crypto.com Exchange | CC/USD | Check your region in the app | No |
| Upbit, Bithumb | CC/KRW | South Korea | No |
| HashKey Exchange | CC/USD | Hong Kong (licensed venue) | No |
| OKJ | CC/JPY | Japan | No |
“No” in the last column only means the venue was not on Canton’s November 2025 list; it says nothing about quality. Listing alone also does not guarantee you can withdraw CC to your own wallet. Some exchanges only allow internal trading for a newer asset, so check the withdrawal screen before you buy if self-custody is the goal.
Canton Coin on Kraken
For US readers, Kraken is the straightforward route. Its Canton page says purchases start at about $10, that debit card buying is offered in certain regions, and that you can send CC to “any hot wallet or cold wallet that supports Canton” by entering the external address. Geographic restrictions may still apply in some states, so the CC page in your Kraken account is the final word. Kraken also runs CC derivatives, which are a separate leveraged product; buying spot CC does not require them.
If you have never opened an exchange account, the general steps (verification, funding, order types) are covered in our crypto buying hub.
Why CC is not an Ethereum token
Ethereum, BNB Chain, Base and similar networks share one design: every node sees every transaction, and accounts are 0x addresses derived from private keys. Canton works differently. Applications run on separate participant nodes, each party sees only the transactions it is involved in, and the Global Synchronizer orders and confirms messages between them. The press release for Ledger’s Canton support summed up the result: transactions are “designed to preserve confidentiality without exposing activity on public block explorers.”
That design has three consequences for a buyer:
- No 0x address. On Canton, an account is a “party”. A party ID looks like a readable hint followed by two colons and a long fingerprint string, for example the documentation’s sample format Alice::1220f2fe…. Your wallet creates it for you.
- No contract to import. CC is built into the network rather than deployed as a token contract, so there is nothing to paste into MetaMask, Trust Wallet or Phantom. CoinGecko lists no contract platform for CC.
- Fees burn CC. Network traffic is priced in US dollars and paid by burning CC, according to Canton’s documentation, so CC itself is the fuel a wallet spends when it transacts.
Put simply, MetaMask will never show a CC balance, and sending CC from an exchange to a 0x address is not possible: a well-built withdrawal form will simply reject the address. If the difference between holding coins on an exchange and holding your own keys is new to you, our explainer on wallets versus exchanges sets it out.
Withdrawing CC to a Canton wallet
In November 2025 the Canton Network published a list of “verified wallet and custody providers” supporting Canton Coin. The retail entries are the ones most individual buyers will look at.
| Wallet type | Providers named by Canton (Nov 2025) | Typical user |
|---|---|---|
| Retail self-custody | Bron, Console Wallet, Loop, Republic, Send, Zoro Wallet, Cantor8 | Individuals holding CC outside an exchange |
| Retail hardware | Cypherock X1 | Users who want keys on a dedicated device |
| Hardware (added Aug 2026) | Ledger Wallet app with supported Ledger signers | Existing Ledger owners |
| Enterprise self-custody | BitGo, Blockdaemon, Copper, Dfns, Unit410, Taurus, Fireblocks | Funds and companies |
| Enterprise full custody | BitGo, Blockdaemon, Hydra X, Zodia, Copper | Institutions using a qualified custodian |
Ledger’s support was announced on 19 August 2026 in a release on the Canton Network site, which said Ledger users can “create and manage Canton accounts to send and receive Canton-native assets” through the Ledger Wallet app.
A careful first withdrawal
- Install the wallet from its official source. Reach it through the Canton Network’s own wallet guide (canton.network, written as plain text) rather than a search ad or a link in a chat.
- Create your Canton account and back up the recovery method. Recovery differs by wallet: some use seed phrases, some passkeys, some a hardware device. Note what yours uses before funding it.
- Copy your receiving party ID. It will contain a “::” separator. If the “address” your wallet shows starts with 0x, you are looking at the wrong asset or wrong app.
- Check the exchange’s withdrawal form. Confirm the network is shown as Canton (or Canton Coin), and fill in any extra field the exchange asks for. Requirements vary by exchange.
- Send a small test amount first, confirm it arrives, then send the rest.
Expect the self-custody experience to be rougher than on Ethereum. Fewer block explorers show retail balances because of Canton’s privacy model, wallet support is younger, and recovery options vary. Some holders reasonably decide to keep CC on a regulated exchange instead; that is a trade-off between exchange counterparty risk and operational risk, not a right or wrong answer.
Lookalike tokens to avoid
Because CC does not exist on EVM chains, any token on Ethereum, BNB Chain, Base or Solana that calls itself “Canton”, “Canton Coin” or “CC” is unrelated to the network. Some will be harmless coincidences; others are created to catch people who search a DEX for the ticker. Signs you are looking at a copy:
- It has a contract address at all. Real CC has none.
- It trades only on a decentralized exchange with a thin liquidity pool.
- Holdings are concentrated in a handful of wallets on the block explorer.
- A website or Telegram group urges you to “bridge” or “migrate” CC to an EVM wallet, or to connect a wallet to claim rewards.
Phishing copies of Canton websites that ask visitors to connect a wallet have also been reported by security researchers. Never approve a wallet connection on a site you reached from a direct message. Our guide to common crypto scams explains wallet drainers and how to report fraud to the FBI’s IC3 or the FTC in the US.
How CC supply works
A short note on supply, since it affects anyone holding the coin. Per the Canton Network’s FAQ there was “no pre-mine, no VC allocations”; CC is minted continuously as rewards to Super Validators, validators and featured applications, and it is burned whenever network traffic is paid for. The network wrote in October 2025 that there is no hard cap, and published illustrative scenarios with supply under 42 billion by July 2026. CoinGecko’s figure of about 39.9 billion in October 2026 sits within that range. Whether supply grows or shrinks over time depends on whether burns catch up with issuance, which Canton calls burn-mint equilibrium. FAQ
Can I buy Canton Coin on Kraken?
Yes. As of October 2026 Kraken lists CC against USD, EUR, USDT and USDC, and says buyers can start with about $10. US customers in most states can use it, though Kraken notes geographic restrictions may apply. Kraken also allows CC withdrawals to an external wallet that supports Canton, using the wallet’s Canton address rather than an Ethereum address.
Where to buy CC crypto if I am not in the US?
CoinGecko’s October 2026 data shows CC on Bybit, OKX, KuCoin, Gate, Bitget and MEXC, mostly against USDT, plus Upbit and Bithumb in South Korea, HashKey in Hong Kong and OKJ in Japan. Bybit, Gate, KuCoin and MEXC also appear in the Canton Network’s official list of exchanges. Check whether your chosen venue supports CC withdrawals if you plan to self-custody.
What is a Canton wallet and which one should I use?
A Canton wallet creates a party ID on the Canton Network and lets you hold and send CC and other Canton assets. The network’s official list names Bron, Console Wallet, Loop, Republic, Send, Zoro Wallet and Cantor8 for retail users, plus the Cypherock X1 hardware wallet; Ledger added support in August 2026. We do not rank them; compare recovery options and supported exchanges.
Can I store Canton Coin in MetaMask?
No. MetaMask handles EVM chains that use 0x addresses and token contracts, while CC is native to the Canton Network and uses party IDs. There is no official Canton Coin contract on Ethereum or any other EVM chain, so a “CC” token that appears in MetaMask is not the Canton Network’s coin.
