TIA is not an Ethereum token, and that single fact shapes how to buy Celestia safely. It lives on its own Cosmos SDK chain, so you buy it on an exchange such as Coinbase, Kraken or Binance.US (Binance, OKX and Bybit outside the US, as of October 2026) and, if you want control of it, withdraw to a Cosmos wallet like Keplr with an address beginning celestia1. Two details cause most problems: deposit memos when sending TIA back to an exchange, and the vesting unlocks that still add supply through 2027. Both get their own sections below.
Key takeaways
- TIA trades on Coinbase, Kraken and Binance.US for US users, and on Binance, OKX, Bybit and Upbit elsewhere, per CoinGecko market data on 25 October 2026.
- Native TIA needs a Cosmos wallet: Keplr is the main option since Leap closed on 28 May 2026, and Keplr pairs with a Ledger.
- Memos are for exchange deposit addresses, not your own wallet. If an exchange shows one, a missing memo can leave funds uncredited.
- Investor vesting ended in late 2025, core-contributor vesting runs to about October 2026, and the R&D and ecosystem allocation keeps unlocking until about October 2027.
- Since the Matcha upgrade (November 2025), unbonding staked TIA takes about 14 days, not the 21 days quoted in older guides.
How to buy Celestia: where TIA trades
If you want background on what Celestia does as a data-availability layer for rollups, read our Celestia explainer first; this page assumes you already know why you want TIA and focuses on getting it without mishaps.
The table lists venues that showed active TIA markets in CoinGecko’s data on 25 October 2026. It is a starting list, not a ranking, and availability can vary by state or country.
| Platform | Region | Notes for TIA buyers |
|---|---|---|
| Coinbase | US and international | Spot TIA market; check the app for withdrawal on the Celestia network |
| Kraken | US (most states), UK, EU | Spot TIA market |
| Binance.US | US | Listed TIA after its global sister exchange; state availability varies |
| Binance, OKX, Bybit | Outside the US | Largest TIA/USDT order books |
| Upbit, Bithumb | South Korea | KRW markets |
| Bitvavo | EU | Euro market since January 2024 |
| Osmosis | Decentralized (any region) | Swap other Cosmos assets for TIA from a Keplr wallet |
One delisting to know about: Bitfinex removed TIA, with trading ending on 27 November 2025. If you held TIA there you will already have been asked to withdraw. Robinhood offers TIA in Canada; we did not find a US Robinhood listing, so check the app if that is your preferred broker.
Prefer the exchange route if you are paying with dollars or a card. Choose Osmosis only if you already hold Cosmos assets such as ATOM or USDC on a Cosmos chain; it is a decentralized exchange, so you swap from your own wallet and pay a small network fee. Setting up Keplr for TIA (and What Happened to Leap)
Many 2024 tutorials tell you to use Leap. That advice is now out of date: the Leap team switched off its browser extension, mobile apps and related products on 28 May 2026. Leap was non-custodial, so anyone who used it still controls their TIA through the recovery phrase; it just needs to be imported into another wallet. For new buyers, Keplr is the practical choice.
A TIA wallet in five minutes
- Install Keplr from the official browser extension store or app store. Check the publisher name and download count before installing; fake wallet apps copy names and icons.
- Create a new wallet and write the recovery phrase on paper. Keplr never needs it again unless you restore.
- Find Celestia in the chain list (search “Celestia” or “TIA”) and make sure it is visible.
- Copy your Celestia address. It starts with
celestia1and is around 47 characters. That prefix is your first sanity check: an address starting withcosmos1,osmo1or0xis for a different chain. - Optional: connect a Ledger. Keplr supports Ledger signing for Celestia using the Cosmos app on the device, so the keys stay on the hardware wallet while Keplr handles the interface.
Cosmostation also supports Celestia if you prefer a mobile-first wallet. Because Celestia is part of the wider Cosmos family, the same wallet can hold ATOM and other IBC-connected assets; our guide to Cosmos explains how those chains connect.
Your first withdrawal from an exchange
On the exchange, choose TIA, then Withdraw. Select the Celestia network (some exchanges label it “TIA”), paste your celestia1 address and leave the memo field empty: a personal wallet does not need one. Send a small amount first. Celestia blocks arrive roughly every six seconds and finalise immediately, so the test transfer typically appears in Keplr within a few minutes of the exchange processing it. Then send the balance.
A wrapped form of TIA also exists on other Cosmos chains via IBC (CoinGecko lists IBC denominations on Cosmos Hub and Osmosis). Wrapped TIA held on Osmosis is fine for trading there, but it must be moved back to Celestia over IBC before you can stake it.
Memos and tags: the costly mistake
The “Celestia memo” question trips up more TIA holders than anything else, and it only matters in one direction.
Exchanges often use a single on-chain deposit address for many customers. To work out which account a deposit belongs to, they give each customer a memo (Cosmos chains call it a memo; some exchanges call it a tag or comment). Your own Keplr wallet has a unique address, so no memo is needed when sending to yourself. The risk appears when you send TIA to an exchange.
| Situation | Memo needed? | What happens if you get it wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Exchange to your Keplr wallet | No; leave blank | An unnecessary memo is simply ignored |
| Keplr to an exchange that shows a memo on its deposit page | Yes, exactly as shown | Funds reach the exchange’s address but are not credited; recovery requires a support ticket and can take weeks or carry a fee |
| Keplr to an exchange that shows no memo field | No | The exchange has given you a unique address |
| Keplr to a friend’s Keplr | No | Nothing; memos are optional text on personal transfers |
Practical habits that prevent the expensive version of this mistake:
- Copy the memo with the copy button rather than retyping it; one missing digit means a different, possibly non-existent account.
- Expect the exchange to show a warning box if a memo is required, and read it every time. Requirements are set by each exchange and can change.
- Never reuse a memo from an old screenshot or a different exchange account.
- If you forget it, contact the exchange’s support with the transaction hash from a Celestia explorer such as Celenium or Mintscan. Do not answer “recovery agents” who message you on social media; that is a common scam pattern.
TIA unlocks and supply in 2026
TIA launched on 31 October 2023 with a genesis supply of 1 billion tokens, and more TIA is created as staking rewards. CoinGecko showed about 985 million TIA in circulation and roughly 1.18 billion in total supply on 25 October 2026, with a market value near $525 million. The gap between those two numbers is mostly tokens still locked under vesting. Celestia’s own documentation sets out who receives them:
| Allocation | Share of genesis supply | Vesting, per Celestia docs | Status as of October 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public allocation | 20.00% | Unlocked at launch | Fully liquid |
| Early backers: Series A&B | 19.67% | One-third after year 1, rest over years 1–2 | Finished around October 2025 |
| Early backers: seed | 15.90% | One-third after year 1, rest over years 1–2 | Finished around October 2025 |
| Initial core contributors | 17.64% | One-third after year 1, rest over years 1–3 | Final tranche around the end of October 2026 |
| R&D and ecosystem | 26.79% | 25% at launch, rest over years 1–4 | Still unlocking until about October 2027 |
The large cliff that headlines once warned about came on 30 October 2024, when one-third of the backer and contributor allocations unlocked at once. In July 2025 the Celestia Foundation bought Polychain Capital’s remaining stake, about 43.45 million TIA, for $62.5 million and placed it with new investors on a rolling unlock that ran into November 2025. Separately, the Matcha upgrade (November 2025) cut annual issuance to about 2.5%, scheduled to fall gradually toward 1.5%.
For a buyer, the takeaway is that new liquid supply has been shrinking but has not stopped. A “Sustainable Blob Economy” tokenomics package was under discussion on Celestia’s governance forum in September 2026; check whether it has passed before relying on any new fee rules. Unlock pressure is one of the inputs in our TIA price prediction, which presents scenarios rather than targets.
After buying: staking TIA
Once TIA sits in Keplr on the Celestia chain, you can delegate it to a validator and earn a share of issuance and fees. Three numbers changed with Matcha and are worth knowing before you start:
- Unbonding: about 14 days (14 days and 1 hour per CIP-37), down from 21. During that time TIA earns nothing and cannot be moved.
- Minimum validator commission: 10%.
- Issuance: about 2.5% a year, so reward rates are lower than in 2024. Read the current rate in your wallet on the day.
Leave a little TIA unstaked to pay transaction fees. Validator selection, liquid staking tokens and claiming rewards are covered in our dedicated Celestia staking walkthrough.
FAQ
Where to buy Celestia in the US?
US customers can use Coinbase, Kraken or Binance.US for TIA as of October 2026, though not every state is covered. Offshore venues with deeper TIA books, such as Binance.com, OKX and Bybit, exclude US residents. If you plan to self-custody, confirm the platform supports TIA withdrawals on the Celestia network before you buy, and compare the withdrawal fee, which is charged in TIA and differs between exchanges.
Can I buy TIA with MetaMask?
Not natively. TIA lives on Celestia, a Cosmos SDK chain, and MetaMask’s 0x addresses cannot receive it. Use Keplr or Cosmostation instead. You may see bridged TIA tokens on EVM chains in some DeFi apps; treat them as separate wrapped assets that depend on a bridge, check their contract carefully, and remember they cannot be staked on Celestia.
How do I add TIA to Keplr?
Open Keplr, search the chain list for Celestia and make it visible. Your celestia1 address appears under the Celestia entry; copy it and use it as the withdrawal destination on your exchange, choosing the Celestia network. The TIA balance shows once the transfer confirms. Former Leap users can import their existing recovery phrase into Keplr and will see the same celestia1 address and balance.
What happens if I forget the Celestia memo on an exchange deposit?
The TIA arrives at the exchange’s pooled address but is not matched to your account. Most large exchanges can credit it manually if you open a ticket with the transaction hash, the amount and your deposit address; some charge a fee and it can take time. Nobody outside the exchange can recover it for you, so ignore unsolicited offers of help.
