Buying PYTH is simple. As of 26 October 2026, Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Bitstamp and Crypto.com Exchange sell it to US customers, and Binance, OKX, Bybit, Upbit and dozens of other venues list it abroad. If you only want exposure, an exchange balance does the job. If you are learning how to buy pyth so you can stake it, three things change the plan. Pyth Network’s staking portal works only with native Solana PYTH. Oracle Integrity Staking stopped paying rewards in April 2026 but still carries slashing risk. And one more scheduled unlock remains, in May 2027.
Key takeaways
- PYTH is a native Solana SPL token. The official mint, per Pyth’s documentation, is HZ1JovNiVvGrGNiiYvEozEVgZ58xaU3RKwX8eACQBCt3. Versions on Ethereum, Base, BNB Chain and others are bridged copies.
- US buyers can use Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Bitstamp or Crypto.com Exchange. Binance, OKX, Bybit, KuCoin, Bitget and Upbit serve non-US markets.
- Governance staking still works and accepts both locked and unlocked PYTH. On 22 April 2026, governance proposal OP-PIP-103 set Oracle Integrity Staking (OIS) rewards to zero, while slashing stayed active.
- About 2.13 billion PYTH unlocked on 19 May 2026. Tokenomist lists the final scheduled cliff for 19 May 2027.
- CoinGecko showed a market cap near $577 million on 26 October 2026, with roughly 7.87 billion of the 10 billion maximum supply circulating.
How to buy Pyth on exchanges (October 2026)
For the project itself (first-party price publishers, pull oracles, the Pythnet appchain), see our Pyth Network explainer. This page sticks to acquiring and using the token. The table lists venues showing active PYTH markets on CoinGecko on 26 October 2026. Listings change, so check that the pair still appears in your own account before you fund it.
| Venue | PYTH pairs seen | Open to US residents? | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coinbase | PYTH/USD | Yes | Dollar on-ramp. Check that the withdrawal screen shows Solana before you send to a staking wallet. |
| Kraken | PYTH/USD, PYTH/EUR | Yes, in most states | Order book through Kraken Pro. |
| Gemini | PYTH/USD | Yes | A US-regulated venue with a USD pair. |
| Bitstamp (owned by Robinhood) | PYTH/USD, PYTH/EUR | Yes, state-dependent | Euro and dollar books. |
| Crypto.com Exchange | PYTH/USD, PYTH/USDT | Region-dependent | The app and the Exchange product can differ in what they offer. |
| Binance, OKX, Bybit, KuCoin, Bitget, Gate | PYTH/USDT, plus USDC on some | No (Binance.US is a separate company) | Most of the global volume. Binance also has a TRY pair. |
| Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone | PYTH/KRW | No | Korean won markets. |
| Raydium, Orca, Meteora (via Jupiter) | PYTH against SOL and USDC | Self-custody, no account | You need a Solana wallet with SOL for fees. |
You can fund an account by card, bank transfer or a stablecoin deposit, as with any other listed asset. Our how to buy crypto hub compares those payment routes, so we won’t repeat them here. Two PYTH-specific points matter more. First, CoinGecko’s pages are an aggregator view, not an exchange’s own confirmation. Before depositing, open the trade screen and search “PYTH”. Second, the ticker is short and generic, so on a DEX only the mint address proves you have the real token. A token name means nothing on its own.
A limit order makes sense on smaller books. On Coinbase or Binance the spread on PYTH is usually tight. On thin regional pairs a market order can fill well away from the last price. Set your price and wait for the fill.
Native SPL vs bridged PYTH: which one to hold
Pyth’s token documentation describes PYTH as native to Solana. The same page lists bridged versions on more than a dozen networks, including Ethereum (0xeFc0CED4B3D536103e76a1c4c74F0385C8F4Bdd3), Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Sui, Aptos and Injective. Those are Wormhole representations. They behave like ordinary tokens on their own chains, but they are not what the staking program counts.
Here is why that matters in practice:
- Staking needs SPL PYTH. The Pyth staking dashboard connects to Solana wallets. Tokens bought on an Ethereum DEX would have to be bridged back before you could stake them, which adds a fee and another step where mistakes happen.
- Exchange withdrawals. Most large exchanges withdraw PYTH on the Solana network. If you see an option such as “ERC-20” or “BEP-20”, choose it only if you specifically want the bridged copy on that chain.
- Wallet choice. Any Solana wallet that supports SPL tokens can hold PYTH. Phantom is the most common. Our Phantom wallet review covers its permissions and hardware-wallet support. Keep a small amount of SOL in the same wallet, because every staking action is a Solana transaction.
- Verifying the mint. In a wallet or on Jupiter, compare the full mint string with the one in Pyth’s documentation, not just the first and last few characters. Scam tokens are often generated to match the start and end of real addresses.
Before you move a large balance, send a small test amount from the exchange and confirm it appears in your wallet. Solana transfers settle in seconds, so the test costs you very little time.
Pyth staking: governance and Oracle Integrity Staking
Pyth runs two separate staking programs. Both start at the official dashboard, staking.pyth.network (written as plain text here; type it yourself or reach it from pyth.network rather than through ads or direct messages). Our general crypto staking guide explains delegation in broad terms. What follows is specific to Pyth as of October 2026.
Governance staking
Staking for governance gives you voting power on Pyth Improvement Proposals in the Pyth DAO. According to Pyth’s documentation, it accepts both locked and unlocked PYTH, so holders still in vesting can take part. It pays no yield. Its only use is a vote on decisions such as fee settings, reward parameters and treasury spending. Pyth said the April 2026 reward changes left this program untouched.
Oracle Integrity Staking (OIS)
OIS launched in late 2024. It lets holders put unlocked PYTH behind specific data publishers. Each publisher has a pool. You can stake into your own pool if you are a publisher, or delegate to someone else’s. If a publisher pushes inaccurate prices, the DAO can slash that pool, and everyone in it loses stake in proportion to their share, up to a capped percentage.
The economics changed in 2026. An April 2026 Pyth blog post said the 100 million PYTH reward pool was running dry. Governance proposal OP-PIP-103 set the OIS reward rate to zero on 22 April 2026. Pyth’s documentation now says rewards are paused while “staking and slashing remain live.” In plain terms, as of October 2026 an OIS delegator takes on slashing risk with no scheduled reward for doing so. The same post noted that about 1 billion PYTH had been staked across roughly 120 publisher pools, and that no slashing proposal had been submitted over the program’s life.
| Governance staking | Oracle Integrity Staking | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Voting in the Pyth DAO | Backing publishers’ data quality |
| Accepts locked PYTH | Yes | No, unlocked only |
| Rewards (Oct 2026) | None by design | Paused since 22 April 2026 |
| Slashing risk | No | Yes, pool-wide, capped |
| Timing | Epoch-based | 7-day epochs starting Thursdays 00:00 UTC, with warm-up and cool-down periods |
A careful sequence for a first stake goes like this. Withdraw PYTH on Solana to a wallet you control. Open the dashboard, ideally from a bookmarked address. Connect the wallet and read the signing request before approving. Start with a small amount and confirm it appears under the correct program. Fake “Pyth staking” and “PYTH airdrop” sites copy the official design and ask for wallet signatures that hand over token approvals. The real dashboard never asks for your seed phrase.
Pyth’s competitive position is often compared with Chainlink, but that comparison belongs in research, not in the mechanics of buying and staking. Neither program is a savings product. Any future reward rate would be a governance decision, and nobody can promise one.
PYTH unlock dates and supply
PYTH launched in November 2023 with a fixed 10 billion maximum supply. About 85% started locked and vests in annual cliffs. Those cliff dates explain the jumps in circulating supply you see on data sites:
- May 2024 and May 2025: earlier scheduled cliffs, mostly ecosystem growth, publisher rewards, protocol development and private sale allocations.
- 19 May 2026: about 2.13 billion PYTH, roughly 21.3% of maximum supply, according to Tokenomist and CoinMarketCal. Before the release, a community post on the Pyth forum (8 March 2026) asked for a six-month delay. It said itself that it was “not a formal governance proposal”, and we found no record that the unlock was postponed.
- 19 May 2027: the next and final scheduled cliff on Tokenomist’s calendar, mainly ecosystem growth. Tokenomist reported about 78.75% of supply unlocked after the 2026 release.
Unlocked does not mean sold. Tokens released to ecosystem or publisher-reward pools may sit in treasuries for years. Still, a cliff can add to the supply available for sale, and anyone buying near one should know when it falls. Pyth also runs the PYTH Reserve, which its April 2026 post said uses a third of the DAO’s treasury balance each month to buy PYTH on the open market, funded by data and product revenue. That is a published policy, not a price floor.
To check the next event yourself, compare at least two unlock trackers with announcements on the Pyth governance forum. If they disagree on a date, the vesting contracts and official posts are the deciding source.
Risks specific to PYTH holders
- Slashing without yield: OIS stake can be cut if a publisher you back misreports, and as of October 2026 it earns no scheduled reward to offset that risk.
- Supply events: the May 2027 cliff is public, and buyers should account for it.
- Infrastructure change: governance proposal OP-PIP-100 formalized retiring Pythnet later in 2026 in favor of newer products such as Lazer and Pyth Pro. Migrations bring operational risk and a wave of phishing about “token swaps”. No token swap for PYTH holders had been announced as of October 2026.
- Bridged-token confusion: wrapped PYTH on other chains relies on Wormhole’s security as well as Pyth’s.
- Market risk: oracle tokens trade with the wider altcoin market. This guide offers no price outlook.
FAQ
Where to buy Pyth Network in the US?
As of October 2026, CoinGecko showed active PYTH/USD markets on Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Bitstamp and Crypto.com Exchange, all of which serve US customers, with some state restrictions. Binance.com, OKX and Bybit list PYTH but do not accept US residents. Check the asset page in your own account, because a listing can be restricted by state or paused.
Can I still earn rewards with PYTH staking?
Not from Oracle Integrity Staking as things stand. Its reward rate was set to zero on 22 April 2026 under OP-PIP-103, and slashing remains active. Governance staking never paid a yield. It gives voting power. Some exchanges may offer their own “earn” products on PYTH. Those are the exchange’s own programs, so read their terms and custody risks separately.
When is the next PYTH unlock?
Tokenomist lists 19 May 2027 as the next and final scheduled cliff, after about 2.13 billion PYTH unlocked on 19 May 2026. Confirm the date on the Pyth governance forum as it approaches, since the DAO can debate vesting changes. Treat any unofficial “unlock claim” link as a likely phishing attempt.
Can I stake PYTH bought on Ethereum or Base?
Not directly. Those are Wormhole-bridged copies, and the Pyth staking dashboard works with native Solana SPL PYTH, mint HZ1JovNiVvGrGNiiYvEozEVgZ58xaU3RKwX8eACQBCt3. You would need to bridge back to Solana first. It is simpler to buy on an exchange and withdraw on the Solana network.
