Cash App bitcoin lets US users buy, sell, send and withdraw BTC inside the same app they use for payments. Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency you can invest in on Cash App. Its newer USDC stablecoin feature converts incoming stablecoins straight into dollars, so you can’t hold them as crypto. Market buys and sells cost 2% to 0.9% for orders under $2,000. Orders of $2,000 or more, Auto Invest, Round Ups and paycheck deposits into bitcoin carry no fee and no spread. You can withdraw to your own wallet free over Lightning or by standard on-chain transfer.
Key takeaways
- Cash App crypto means bitcoin only. Ether, solana and other coins aren’t available to buy.
- Small one-off purchases are the expensive way to buy. Recurring Auto Invest buys and purchases over $2,000 have no fee or spread, according to Cash App’s fee page.
- You can send BTC on-chain (minimum 100,000 sats for a free standard withdrawal) or instantly over the Lightning Network. Lightning isn’t available in New York.
- Cash App says it raised bitcoin withdrawal limits for eligible verified users in February 2026. Check Profile → Limits for your own caps.
Can you buy other crypto on Cash App?
No. Cash App has offered bitcoin since 2018 and has deliberately stayed bitcoin-only for investing. Block’s leadership has repeatedly said it is focused on bitcoin. In May 2026 Cash App added the ability to send and receive the USDC stablecoin on networks including Solana, Ethereum, Polygon and Arbitrum. Incoming USDC is automatically converted to your US-dollar balance, though, so it works as a payment feature, not a crypto holding. If you want ether or altcoins, you’ll need another app. We compare PayPal crypto and Robinhood below.
How to buy bitcoin on Cash App
- Verify your identity. Go to Profile, then Personal and identity verification. Cash App needs your full name, date of birth, the last four digits of your SSN, and sometimes a photo ID before it lets you buy, withdraw or receive larger amounts of bitcoin.
- Add funds. Link a debit card or bank account, or receive a payment. Bitcoin buys come from your Cash balance.
- Open the Bitcoin tab (the Money or Investing section, depending on app version) and tap Buy.
- Choose an amount. You can buy as little as $1. Before confirming, check the fee and spread on the confirmation screen.
- Or set up Auto Invest. Choose a daily, weekly or bi-weekly recurring buy, turn on Round Ups to invest spare change from Cash Card purchases, or route part of a direct-deposit paycheck into bitcoin. Cash App lists all of these as zero-fee.
Selling is the reverse. Tap Sell, choose an amount, and the dollars land in your Cash balance. Our general how to buy bitcoin guide covers exchanges and ATMs if Cash App doesn’t suit you.
Cash App bitcoin fees
Cash App’s bitcoin fee page shows this schedule:
| Transaction size | Market buy or sell fee | Auto Invest / Round Ups / paycheck deposit |
|---|---|---|
| $1–$499 | 2.0% | 0% |
| $500–$999 | 1.5% | 0% |
| $1,000–$1,999 | 0.9% | 0% |
| $2,000+ | 0% | 0% |
On top of the fee there may be a spread of 0% to 0.75% “depending on market conditions”. The spread is the gap between the price you pay and the market price. Cash App says there’s no spread on Auto Invest, Round Ups, paycheck deposits or buys over $2,000. In practice:
- A one-off $100 buy can cost around 2% to nearly 3% including spread, which is high compared with an exchange’s advanced trading screen.
- A $25 weekly Auto Invest costs nothing beyond the price itself, which makes Cash App one of the cheaper ways to dollar-cost average small amounts.
- A $2,000+ single purchase is listed as fee- and spread-free.
Fee schedules change, so always read the confirmation screen before you tap Buy.
Cash App bitcoin withdrawal: on-chain vs Lightning
Unlike some apps, Cash App lets you move your BTC to a wallet you control. You have two options.
| On-chain (standard) | Lightning | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Up to about 24 hours for standard. Faster paid options may appear in the app | Seconds |
| Cost | Free standard withdrawals. Faster options add a network fee | No Cash App fee, per its fee page |
| Minimum | 100,000 sats (0.001 BTC) for standard | Small payments supported |
| Best for | Moving savings to a hardware wallet | Payments, tips, moving small amounts |
| Availability | All verified US users | Not available to New York residents |
To withdraw: open the Bitcoin screen, tap Send or Withdraw, and paste a bitcoin address or scan a QR code. Paste a Lightning invoice instead to pay over Lightning. Choose a speed, confirm, and save the transaction ID. Always send a small test first. Bitcoin transactions can’t be reversed, and sending to the wrong network or address loses the funds. Our guide to sending and receiving crypto explains addresses and network fees step by step.
Cash App bitcoin withdrawal limits
Limits run on rolling 7-day and 30-day windows and depend on verification. For years the widely cited caps were $2,000 per day and $5,000 per week. In February 2026, Block’s bitcoin lead Miles Suter told Bitcoin Magazine that eligible customers would get $10,000 per day and $25,000 per week by default. Cash App doesn’t publish one universal number, so check Profile → Limits in the app for your account.
Cash App Lightning and paying with bitcoin
Cash App added Lightning sends and receives in 2022. Block has since tied it into Square. Square sellers could start accepting bitcoin over Lightning from 10 November 2025, and Square began switching the feature on by default for eligible US sellers in March 2026. Suter has said Cash App users can pay a Lightning QR code even without holding bitcoin. Cash App converts dollars at checkout, and the merchant can keep bitcoin or receive dollars. That makes Cash App one of the simplest ways to make a real bitcoin payment, but whether a given shop accepts it depends on the merchant.
Tax note: selling bitcoin, or spending bitcoin you hold, is a taxable disposal in the US. Cash App issues tax forms for bitcoin sales.

Cash App bitcoin scams to watch for
- Fake Cash App support. Cash App says it will never ask for your sign-in code, PIN or SSN by phone, text or social media, or ask you to send money or bitcoin to “verify” your account. Search results and Google Docs pages listing “Cash App bitcoin support” phone numbers are a known scam pattern.
- Cash flipping / “bitcoin doubling”. Social posts promise to turn $100 into $1,000 if you send bitcoin or cash first. Nothing comes back.
- Romance and investment scams. A new online contact coaches you to buy bitcoin on Cash App and send it to a “trading platform” address. Once sent, it’s gone.
- Fake payment screenshots. When selling goods for bitcoin, confirm the funds actually arrived in your app before handing anything over.
If you’re scammed, report it in the app and to the FTC (ReportFraud.ftc.gov) and the FBI’s IC3 (ic3.gov).
FAQ
Is Cash App a good place to buy bitcoin?
For small recurring buys, yes. Cash App lists Auto Invest and Round Ups as fee- and spread-free, and you can withdraw to your own wallet. For one-off purchases under $2,000, the 0.9%–2% fee plus spread makes a low-fee exchange’s advanced trading screen cheaper.
How long does a Cash App bitcoin withdrawal take?
Lightning withdrawals settle in seconds. Standard on-chain withdrawals are free and Cash App says they complete within about 24 hours. Faster on-chain options, when offered, add a network fee shown before you confirm. The receiving wallet may wait for block confirmations before showing the funds as available.
Why can’t I withdraw bitcoin from Cash App?
The most common reasons are incomplete identity verification, a withdrawal below the 100,000-sat standard minimum, hitting your rolling 7-day limit, or using Lightning as a New York resident. Check Profile → Limits and your verification status, then contact support only through the app itself.
Does Cash App charge a fee to send bitcoin?
Standard on-chain withdrawals and Lightning payments carry no Cash App fee, according to its fee page. Faster on-chain speeds add a network fee, shown on the confirmation screen. Sending bitcoin to another Cash App user by $cashtag is handled inside Cash App.
