eToro crypto trading is available in 48 US states as of October 2026, including New York since 1 April 2026, but not in Hawaii or Nevada. US customers own the actual coins, pay a 1% fee to buy or sell, and can move many of them to the eToro crypto wallet and out to an external address. In the UK and EU, the product and regulator differ, so this review takes one account and follows it through New York, Texas and the UK. It draws on eToro’s fee pages, disclosures and filings, not hands-on testing.
Key takeaways
- US crypto runs through eToro USA LLC (or eToro NY LLC for New Yorkers), money services businesses, not the SIPC-member broker that holds your stocks. Crypto is not FDIC or SIPC insured.
- The US fee page lists a flat 1% to buy or sell crypto, shown separately from the market spread since mid-July 2025.
- Moving coins from the trading account to the eToro wallet costs 2% (US minimum $1, maximum $100) as of October 2026.
- CopyTrader reached US users in October 2025, including crypto; risk scores describe volatility, not future results.
- eToro Group listed on Nasdaq in May 2025 under the ticker ETOR.
eToro crypto at a glance (October 2026)
eToro is a multi-asset investing app founded in Israel in 2007, best known for social and copy trading. Crypto is one product among stocks, ETFs and options. These figures come from eToro’s own pages, checked in October 2026; they change, so confirm them before you fund an account.

eToro’s US platform briefly shrank in 2024. In a September 2024 settlement with the SEC, without admitting or denying the findings, eToro USA agreed to pay $1.5 million and to limit US crypto trading to bitcoin, bitcoin cash and ether. It rebuilt the list during 2025, saying US users could trade more than 50 cryptoassets in June 2025 and more than 100 by August 2025. New York started with a smaller list.
What you actually own: crypto vs CFDs by country
The same eToro logo covers different legal products depending on where you live. Three example customers show the split.
A customer in New York
eToro received its New York BitLicense in 2023 but did not switch crypto on for the state until 1 April 2026. New Yorkers are served by eToro NY LLC, which holds a New York money transmitter licence and virtual currency licence. Reports at launch described a starting list of around 20 tokens, smaller than the national menu, because the New York State Department of Financial Services must approve each coin. eToro said it was discussing staking with regulators, so do not assume staking is available in the state.
A customer in Texas
A Texan uses eToro USA LLC, a FinCEN-registered money services business with state licences (NMLS ID 1769299). They see the broader US list of 100-plus assets, pay the 1% fee and own the coins in eToro’s custody. Their stocks sit at a different company, eToro USA Securities Inc., a FINRA and SIPC member. That split matters: SIPC protection applies to the stocks, not to the crypto.
A customer in the UK
A UK customer deals with an FCA-regulated eToro entity. Because the FCA has banned the sale of crypto derivatives to retail consumers since January 2021, a UK retail client buying “Bitcoin” on eToro gets the underlying asset, not a contract for difference (CFD). In other markets, eToro offers leveraged crypto CFDs, which are bets on price with no coin behind them; you can lose more quickly, and you cannot withdraw the coin. Our explainer on crypto CFD trading covers how those contracts work. In the EU, eToro (Europe) Ltd received a MiCA permit from Cyprus’s securities regulator, CySEC, in February 2025.
A simple check wherever you live: if the order ticket lets you choose leverage above 1x for crypto, you are not buying the coin.
eToro crypto fees and spreads
eToro has changed how it presents crypto costs. Its US fee page says: “eToro charges a straightforward, transparent fee of 1% for buying or selling crypto.” The fee is deducted from your balance when you buy and from proceeds when you sell. Since mid-July 2025, the fee has been shown as a separate line before you confirm a trade, rather than built into the quoted price. You still face the market spread, the gap between buy and sell prices, which widens in fast markets.
Worked example with illustrative numbers: a $1,000 bitcoin purchase incurs a $10 fee. Selling the position later at $1,000 incurs another $10. So a round trip costs about 2% plus spread before any price move. On non-US accounts, eToro’s international fee page lists the same 1% for Bronze, Silver and Gold club members, with reduced rates for higher tiers based on monthly crypto volume.
| Cost | eToro (US, Oct 2026) | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| Crypto buy or sell | 1% of trade value | Shown on the order screen before you confirm |
| Spread | Varies with the market | Compare live buy and sell prices |
| Trading account to eToro wallet | 2%, min $1, max $100 | Transfer screen |
| Receiving crypto from outside | No eToro fee; network fee applies | eToro wallet guide |
| Selling wallet crypto for USD | Tiered, from 1% down to 0.6% for top tiers | Wallet fee page |

Moving crypto out: the eToro wallet
eToro’s crypto wallet (marketed as the eToro Money crypto wallet outside the US) is a separate app with its own receiving addresses. eToro says its US wallet went live on 16 December 2025. As of October 2026, its US wallet guide states:
- Two-way transfers: coins can move between the trading account and the wallet, and between the wallet and external addresses.
- The 2% step: moving coins from the trading account into the wallet costs 2%, capped at $100 and with a $1 minimum, so larger transfers are relatively cheaper.
- Minimums: each coin has a minimum transfer amount (USDC’s is 250, for example), and some chains carry activation quirks, such as a 2.5 XLM reserve for Stellar.
- Exclusions: crypto held inside CopyTrader or Smart Portfolio positions cannot be transferred.
- Custody: wallet services are provided by eToro USA LLC. The wallet is still an eToro service, so for full self-custody you would send coins on to a hardware or software wallet you control.
Withdrawing to a bank is a separate step: sell the crypto for dollars, then withdraw cash. Check the cash withdrawal fee shown for your account type.
Copy trading crypto on eToro
CopyTrader lets you allocate money to automatically mirror another user’s trades. eToro announced on 29 October 2025 that US users could copy US traders across stocks, ETFs and crypto. Two points matter before you rely on it:
- Risk scores describe volatility. eToro rates traders from 1 to 10 based on the volatility of their portfolio; a 10 means portfolio volatility above about 23%. A low score does not make losses unlikely.
- Copied crypto stays locked in. Coins held through a copy position cannot move to the wallet, so you cannot withdraw those coins without first closing the copy.
Past results shown on a trader’s profile are not a prediction, and a trader’s style can change. The mechanics, costs and common pitfalls are covered in our general copy trading crypto guide. We do not rank or recommend individual traders.
Is eToro safe? Regulation, IPO and safety
eToro Group priced its US initial public offering at $52 a share in May 2025 and listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under ETOR. Being public brings audited financial statements and SEC disclosure, which helps transparency but does not protect your crypto from market losses or from the firm’s operational risks.
The regulatory map, as stated in eToro’s own disclosures:
- US crypto: eToro USA LLC, a FinCEN-registered money services business with state money transmitter licences; eToro NY LLC for New York (money transmitter licence MT #104940 and virtual currency licence VC #122584).
- US securities: eToro USA Securities Inc., SEC-registered broker-dealer and FINRA/SIPC member. SIPC does not cover crypto.
- UK: FCA. EU: CySEC, including the MiCA crypto permit.
Security basics still apply: turn on two-factor authentication, use a unique password, and type etoro.com yourself rather than clicking ads or messages, because brokers are frequently impersonated. If you are weighing eToro against other brokers and apps, see our crypto brokers comparison or the wider how to buy crypto hub.
FAQ
Is eToro crypto available in New York?
Yes, since 1 April 2026. New York residents trade through eToro NY LLC, which holds a BitLicense and a money transmitter licence. The coin list in New York started smaller than the national list because each asset needs state approval, and staking was not confirmed as available. eToro’s US crypto disclosures list Hawaii, Nevada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands as unavailable.
What are eToro crypto fees in the US?
As of October 2026, eToro’s US fee page lists a 1% fee to buy and a 1% fee to sell crypto, displayed before you confirm the order, plus the market spread. Moving crypto from the trading account to the eToro wallet costs 2%, with a $1 minimum and $100 cap. Receiving crypto from an external wallet carries no eToro fee beyond the network fee.
Can I withdraw crypto from eToro to another wallet?
In many cases, yes. You first transfer supported coins from the trading account to the eToro crypto wallet, paying the 2% transfer fee, and then send them from the wallet to an external address. Each coin has a minimum, and coins held via CopyTrader or Smart Portfolios cannot be moved until those positions are closed.
Is crypto on eToro protected by SIPC?
No. eToro’s disclosures state that cryptoassets are not covered by FDIC or SIPC. SIPC protection applies only to securities held at eToro USA Securities Inc., up to its stated limits, and only covers broker failure, not losses from price movements. If eToro’s crypto entity failed, your recovery would depend on custody arrangements and insolvency law.
