How to Buy Berachain (BERA): Exchanges and BGT Explained

How to Buy Berachain (BERA): Exchanges and BGT Explained

Older guides describe a three-token puzzle, so first a correction: since the PoL Next hard fork on 8 July 2026, Berachain no longer issues BGT, and BERA (with its wrapped and staked forms) carries the whole reward system. That makes how to buy Berachain simpler. You buy BERA on an exchange such as Coinbase, Kraken, Binance or Bybit, optionally withdraw it to an EVM wallet on the Berachain network, and use HONEY only if you need Berachain’s dollar stablecoin. Below: where BERA trades, what happened to BGT, wallet setup, and the unlock and exploit history.

Key takeaways

  • BERA trades on Coinbase and Kraken for US users and on Binance, OKX, Bybit and Upbit elsewhere, per CoinGecko on 25 October 2026.
  • BGT was always non-transferable, so it was never for sale; its emissions stopped on 8 July 2026 and rewards now flow as WBERA and sWBERA.
  • HONEY is a stablecoin minted against approved collateral; it is not an investment in Berachain.
  • Berachain is EVM-identical: add chain ID 80094 to MetaMask and receive BERA at your normal 0x address, on the Berachain network.
  • A one-year cliff unlocked a large tranche on 6 February 2026, and linear vesting continues; the chain was also halted in November 2025 after the Balancer V2 exploit hit BEX.

How to buy Berachain in October 2026

Berachain’s mainnet and the BERA token launched on 6 February 2025. If you want the backstory, from the Bong Bears NFT origins to Proof of Liquidity, our Berachain explainer covers it. Here the focus is acquisition.

CoinGecko’s BERA market list on 25 October 2026 included these venues. It put BERA’s market value at roughly $53 million that day, which makes it a small-cap token where order-book depth matters.

Venue Region What to check
Coinbase US and international Whether the app offers BERA withdrawals on the Berachain network for your account
Kraken US (most states), UK, EU Same; Kraken lists the network name in the withdrawal form
Binance Outside the US Largest BERA/USDT market
OKX, Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin Outside the US USDT pairs; spreads can widen in quiet hours
Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone South Korea KRW markets
Berachain DEXs Any region, from a wallet Swap bridged stablecoins or ETH for BERA once you have funds on Berachain

For a first purchase with dollars, a regulated exchange is the straightforward route; our overview of buying crypto explains account verification and payment methods. Leaving BERA on the exchange is fine if you only want price exposure. You need it in your own wallet only to pay gas, stake, or use Berachain apps.

The pattern resembles other recent layer-1 launches; if you have followed our Monad buying guide, the logic of “buy on an exchange, withdraw on the native network, keep some gas” will be familiar.

BERA, BGT and HONEY: which can you buy?

Most confusion about Berachain comes from its original design. Here is how each token stands in October 2026.

Token Original role (2025) Status after PoL Next Can you buy it?
BERA Gas and validator staking Gas, staking and, through WBERA and sWBERA, the reward system Yes, on exchanges and DEXs
BGT Non-transferable governance and reward token, earned by providing liquidity in reward vaults Emissions halted by the 8 July 2026 hard fork; residual BGT redeemable for BERA via the Berachain Hub No, and it never could be bought
HONEY Berachain’s native stablecoin, minted against approved stablecoins Continues as the chain’s stablecoin Yes, but it targets $1 and is not exposure to Berachain
WBERA / sWBERA Wrapped BERA (for apps) WBERA is now emitted per block; sWBERA is the staked form that earns a share WBERA by wrapping BERA; sWBERA by staking it

Why BGT was never for sale

BGT (“Bera Governance Token”) was deliberately soulbound: the only way to get it was to provide liquidity in an approved reward vault and earn it, and the only exit was burning it one-for-one into BERA. That is why no exchange ever listed it, and why any “BGT token” offered for sale was not the real thing. With PoL Next, contract changes began emitting WBERA instead of BGT on 7 July 2026, and the hard fork on 8 July halted BGT issuance altogether. The Foundation directed holders of BGT and BGT liquid-staking tokens to migrate through the official Berachain Hub. If you held one of those liquid-staking receipt tokens, our primer on liquid staking explains how such receipts work and why their value depends on the underlying protocol.

Scam warning: migration periods attract fake “BGT claim” and “sWBERA bonus” sites. Berachain’s official site is berachain.com, written here as plain text; reach the Hub from there rather than from a search ad or a reply on social media.

HONEY in one paragraph

HONEY is minted by depositing approved stablecoins and is designed to hold a $1 value. You might buy or mint it to trade or provide liquidity on Berachain, but it does not rise if Berachain succeeds. Like any collateralised stablecoin, it can trade slightly off $1 under stress.

Withdrawing to a Berachain wallet

Berachain runs unmodified Ethereum execution clients, so any EVM wallet works, and your address is the same 0x address you use on Ethereum. What differs is the network.

  1. Add Berachain to your wallet. In MetaMask, add a network with chain ID 80094, currency symbol BERA and the explorer Berascan. Many wallets list Berachain in their built-in network menu; use that where available rather than typing RPC details from an unknown page. Our MetaMask guide shows where these settings live.
  2. Copy your 0x address. It is identical across EVM networks.
  3. Choose “Berachain” as the withdrawal network on the exchange. Do not choose Ethereum or BNB Chain; BERA on those networks, if offered, would be a bridged representation, not the native gas token.
  4. Send a small test amount and confirm it on Berascan before sending the rest.
  5. Keep some BERA unspent for gas; every action on Berachain, including wrapping and staking, pays fees in BERA.

Once BERA is in your wallet, wrapping it to WBERA and staking into sWBERA happens in the Berachain Hub. Reward rates float with emissions and participation; the Foundation said APRs could rise sharply after PoL Next but warned they would fluctuate, so treat any quoted rate as a snapshot.

Unlocks and supply

BERA started with a genesis supply of 500 million tokens and is inflationary through block emissions. CoinGecko showed about 351 million BERA circulating and roughly 563 million in total supply on 25 October 2026.

The original tokenomics, as reported by The Block before launch, put investors, core contributors and other locked allocations on the same schedule: one-sixth unlocking after a one-year cliff, with the remainder vesting linearly over the following 24 months. That cliff arrived on 6 February 2026. Reported sizes vary by tracker, with one widely cited figure of about 63.75 million BERA, split mainly between investors and core contributors. Linear vesting from that date continues into early 2028 on the published schedule, so new supply keeps reaching the market each month. Check a token-unlock tracker for the current monthly amount.

The same date ended a controversial term: reports in November 2025 said Brevan Howard’s Nova Digital fund held a right to request a refund of its $25 million Series B investment, valid until 6 February 2026.

Risks: the 2025 exploit

On 3 November 2025, the Balancer V2 exploit drained funds from Balancer and protocols built on its code, including BEX, Berachain’s Balancer-derived exchange. Berachain’s validators coordinated a halt of the network so the team could ship an emergency hard fork to recover the affected funds. Co-founder Smokey the Bera acknowledged the decision was contentious. Supporters saw it as protecting users; critics saw a chain that a small group could stop at will.

For a buyer, the episode matters in three ways:

  • Censorship and halt risk: the validator set showed it can pause the chain. That can protect funds, but it also means transfers can freeze.
  • DeFi dependency: Berachain’s model leans on its DEX and liquidity vaults, so bugs in those apps hit the core economy.
  • Shrinking activity: total value locked was reported around $56 million in July 2026, a small fraction of early-2025 levels, and BERA was down about 88% year-on-year at the time of the hard fork.

Add the unlock schedule and the governance shift from PoL Next, and BERA is a high-risk, small-cap asset. None of this predicts direction; it defines what can go wrong.

FAQ

Where to buy Berachain in the US?

Coinbase and Kraken are the US-accessible venues for BERA in October 2026, subject to state rules. Larger BERA markets exist on Binance, OKX and Bybit, none of which onboard US residents. If you plan to stake or use Berachain apps, confirm that your exchange supports BERA withdrawals on the Berachain network itself before you buy.

Can I still get the BGT token?

No. BGT was never transferable, so it could not be bought, only earned by providing liquidity in reward vaults. The PoL Next hard fork on 8 July 2026 stopped BGT emissions entirely. Remaining BGT can be redeemed for BERA through the official Berachain Hub. Anyone selling “BGT” on a website or DEX is offering something other than the original token.

Is the HONEY stablecoin a way to invest in Berachain?

No. HONEY is designed to stay at $1, backed by approved stablecoin collateral, so it does not gain value if Berachain grows. It is useful for trading, payments and liquidity provision on Berachain. To get price exposure to the network, you would hold BERA, which also pays gas and can be staked as sWBERA.

Do I need BERA to use Berachain?

Yes, for gas. Every transaction on Berachain, including swaps, wrapping and staking, pays its fee in BERA. Even if you bridge stablecoins in to use an app, you need a small amount of BERA in the same wallet first.
