How to Buy Linea (LINEA): Exchanges and Gas on Linea

The one thing to know before you learn how to buy Linea: owning LINEA does not let you transact on the Linea network. Gas on Linea is paid in ETH, so moving or swapping LINEA on-chain needs a little ETH on Linea too. If you simply want to hold the token, Coinbase, Kraken, Binance, OKX and Bybit list it as of October 2026. If you want it in your own wallet, you can swap for it directly on Linea through DEXs such as Lynex, SyncSwap or Uniswap. Both routes are below, plus the token’s supply and burn.

Key takeaways

  • LINEA launched on 10 September 2025 and trades on Coinbase and Kraken for US users and on Binance, OKX, Bybit and Upbit elsewhere, per CoinGecko on 25 October 2026.
  • LINEA is not a gas token and, per Linea’s documentation, carries no governance rights.
  • The same contract address, 0x1789e0043623282d5dcc7f213d703c6d8bafbb04, is used on Linea and Ethereum.
  • Since November 2025, a dual burn uses Linea’s surplus ETH fees: 20% is burned as ETH, 80% buys and burns LINEA.
  • Only about a third of the 72 billion supply was circulating in October 2026; the ecosystem fund unlocks over ten years and Consensys’s 15% is locked for five.

How to buy Linea: exchanges listing LINEA

Linea is Consensys’s zero-knowledge rollup on Ethereum; how the rollup works and how LINEA’s unusual no-investor allocation came about are covered in our Linea explainer. This page is about acquiring the token.

Coinbase added LINEA to its listing roadmap in October 2025. On 25 October 2026, CoinGecko’s ticker data showed LINEA markets on the venues below. We group them by region; this is not a ranking.

Exchange US customers? Withdrawal networks to look for
Coinbase Yes Check whether the send screen offers Linea, Ethereum or both
Kraken Yes, most states Check the network list in the withdrawal form
Binance No Typically Linea and Ethereum
OKX, Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin No Varies; OKX and Bybit list LINEA spot markets
Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone No (South Korea) KRW markets
Crypto.com Exchange Check in app Listed in CoinGecko’s LINEA tickers

If you are opening your first exchange account, our crypto buying hub covers verification, payment methods and fees; nothing there is specific to LINEA.

Linea network or Ethereum network?

LINEA exists on both chains at the same address. That makes withdrawals forgiving in one way (your 0x address is the same on both) and confusing in another (the tokens only show up when your wallet is set to the chain they were sent on). As a rule:

  • Withdraw on Linea if you plan to trade or use LINEA in Linea apps. Fees are a few cents, paid in ETH on Linea.
  • Withdraw on Ethereum only if you specifically want it on mainnet, accepting higher gas fees paid in ETH on Ethereum.

Either way, the tokens go to a 0x address you control. Sending to an exchange deposit address is different: confirm that exchange accepts LINEA on the network you are using before you send.

Buying LINEA on Linea itself

If you already hold ETH, the on-chain route avoids exchange accounts and withdrawal fees. The sequence:

  1. Set up a wallet on Linea. MetaMask lists “Linea Mainnet” in its default networks (chain ID 59144). Our MetaMask tutorial shows how to switch networks and import a token.
  2. Get ETH onto Linea. Either withdraw ETH from an exchange that supports the Linea network, or bridge ETH from Ethereum or another layer 2. Our walkthrough on bridging to Linea compares the official bridge with third-party options, so we do not repeat those steps here.
  3. Open a Linea DEX. CoinGecko showed LINEA liquidity on Lynex, Etherex, SyncSwap, PancakeSwap v3 and Uniswap v4 on Linea in October 2026. Reach each app from Linea’s official ecosystem listings rather than a search ad.
  4. Select LINEA by contract, not name. Paste 0x1789e0043623282d5dcc7f213d703c6d8bafbb04 into the token search and confirm it matches what LineaScan shows. Copycat tokens named “LINEA” or “Linea Token” exist.
  5. Swap part of your ETH, leaving some ETH behind for future gas. Check the price impact; on a thinner pool, splitting a large order reduces slippage.

The same applies if you want USDC-to-LINEA: you still need ETH on Linea to pay for the swap.

Why you still need ETH for gas

This catches out a surprising number of buyers, especially those who withdraw LINEA from an exchange into a brand-new wallet. Linea is an Ethereum rollup, and it uses ETH as its native currency for transaction fees. LINEA is an ordinary ERC-20 token on that network.

You want to Need LINEA? Need ETH on Linea?
Hold LINEA on an exchange Yes No
Receive LINEA into your wallet N/A No; receiving is free
Send, swap or sell LINEA from your wallet Yes Yes
Use any app on Linea No Yes
Bridge LINEA to Ethereum Yes Yes, plus ETH on Ethereum for the claim, depending on the bridge

The fix if you are stuck with LINEA and no ETH: withdraw a small amount of ETH from an exchange directly on the Linea network, or bridge a little ETH in. A few dollars’ worth usually covers many transactions, because fees on Linea are typically cents. If you want to understand why rollups price gas this way, our layer 2 guide explains how rollup fees are made up.

LINEA supply and the dual burn

Linea’s documentation sets the genesis supply at 72,009,990,000 LINEA, described as the maximum. There is no allocation to private investors or employees. CoinGecko counted about 24.5 billion LINEA circulating on 25 October 2026, with a market value near $62 million.

Allocation Share Unlocks
Ecosystem Fund (Linea Consortium) 75% Over ten years, front-loaded: about 10% a year early, tapering to 2% by year ten
Early contributors (airdrop) and strategic builders 10% (9% + 1%) Fully unlocked
Consensys treasury 15% Locked and non-transferable for five years

About 22% of supply circulated at the September 2025 launch. The ecosystem fund’s releases are what move circulating supply from there; that ongoing issuance into grants and incentives is one of the main supply pressures on the token.

How the dual burn works

The burn went live in November 2025, backdated to the token launch on 11 September 2025. Linea collects fees in ETH into a revenue contract. After infrastructure costs, the surplus is split:

  • 20% is burned as ETH.
  • 80% is swapped for LINEA on a Linea DEX; that LINEA is bridged to Ethereum and burned there, where total supply is tracked.

Two consequences for a buyer. First, the burn’s size depends on Linea’s fee surplus, which is small when fees are cheap and Ethereum data costs are high; Linea and growthepie publish dashboards with cumulative totals. Second, the burn is a buyer of LINEA in the market, but it runs alongside ecosystem-fund unlocks, so whether supply is net shrinking depends on the balance between the two. None of this is a price signal on its own.

The airdrop is over

The Linea airdrop claim window ran from 10 September to 9 December 2025. Unclaimed tokens returned to the ecosystem fund. Any site offering a Linea airdrop claim in late 2026 is a phishing attempt; Linea’s official site is linea.build, written here as plain text for comparison.

Other risks

  • Consensys dependence: Consensys runs the sequencer and holds upgrade controls, and Linea halted block production once, in June 2024, during the Velocore exploit.
  • No governance or fee claim: LINEA gives holders no vote and no share of revenue; the burn is its only link to network usage.
  • Volatility: a newer token with heavy airdrop distribution and ongoing unlocks.

FAQ

Where to buy Linea in the US?

In the US, LINEA is available on Coinbase and on Kraken in most states, as of October 2026. US residents can also swap ETH for LINEA on Linea-based DEXs from a self-custody wallet. Offshore listings on Binance.com, OKX and Bybit are not an option for US residents. Check which network your exchange uses for LINEA withdrawals before you send tokens to a wallet.

Can I pay gas on Linea with the LINEA token?

No. Linea’s documentation is explicit that ETH is the gas token and LINEA is not needed to use the network. To send or swap LINEA from your own wallet you need a small ETH balance on Linea. Exchanges that support the Linea network let you withdraw ETH there directly, which is usually simpler than bridging for small amounts.

Can I still claim the Linea airdrop?

No. The claim window closed on 9 December 2025, and unclaimed tokens went back to the Linea Consortium’s ecosystem fund. Websites or messages offering a Linea airdrop claim now are scams designed to get you to connect a wallet and sign a malicious approval. If you see one, close it and report it rather than connecting.

What is the Linea burn?

It is the dual burn that went live in November 2025. Linea takes the surplus from ETH transaction fees after infrastructure costs, burns 20% as ETH, and uses 80% to buy LINEA on a Linea DEX and burn it on Ethereum. The amount burned varies with network activity, and Linea publishes dashboards so totals can be checked.
