How to Buy PancakeSwap (CAKE): Exchanges and BNB Chain

CAKE is the token of PancakeSwap, the largest decentralized exchange on BNB Chain. The quickest answer to how to buy PancakeSwap is a centralized exchange such as Binance, Kraken or Coinbase. The more native route is to buy it on PancakeSwap itself, which takes a BNB Chain wallet and a little BNB for gas. One detail surprises people: CAKE now lives on about ten chains, and Coinbase, for example, only withdraws the Ethereum version. Knowing which chain your CAKE is on, and what the 2025 tokenomics overhaul did to staking, will save you a mistake or two.

Key takeaways

  • CAKE’s home is BNB Chain (BEP-20 contract 0x0e09fabb73bd3ade0a17ecc321fd13a19e81ce82); official versions also exist on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, zkSync, Aptos and other chains.
  • As of October 2026, CAKE trades on Binance, Binance.US, Coinbase, Kraken, Bybit, KuCoin and Gate; Robinhood shows the price but does not offer trading.
  • Coinbase withdraws CAKE on Ethereum only; Binance offers BNB Chain, Ethereum and Aptos.
  • Tokenomics 3.0, live since April 2025, retired CAKE staking, veCAKE and gauge voting and cut emissions.
  • Fake CAKE tokens and lookalike PancakeSwap sites are common; verify the contract on BscScan and bookmark pancakeswap.finance.

CAKE at a glance: chains, contract and supply

PancakeSwap launched on BNB Chain (then Binance Smart Chain) in 2020, and CAKE started as a BEP-20 token there. As the DEX expanded to other networks, CAKE followed. CoinGecko lists these contracts, among others:

Chain CAKE contract Gas token
BNB Chain (native) 0x0e09fabb73bd3ade0a17ecc321fd13a19e81ce82 BNB
Ethereum 0x152649ea73beab28c5b49b26eb48f7ead6d4c898 ETH
Arbitrum One 0x1b896893dfc86bb67cf57767298b9073d2c1ba2c ETH
Base 0x3055913c90fcc1a6ce9a358911721eeb942013a1 ETH
zkSync Era 0x3a287a06c66f9e95a56327185ca2bdf5f031cecd ETH

Versions also exist on Aptos, Solana, opBNB, Linea and Polygon zkEVM. The non-BNB versions are bridged representations, so most liquidity still sits on BNB Chain. Copy addresses from CoinGecko or PancakeSwap’s own documentation rather than any article, this one included.

On supply: a 2023 governance vote cut CAKE’s maximum supply cap from 750 million to 450 million, and the 2025 tokenomics proposal targeted roughly 4% annual deflation through lower emissions and burns. Whether supply actually shrinks in a given month depends on trading volume feeding the burns, which PancakeSwap reports publicly. For what the DEX itself does, see our guide to what PancakeSwap is.

Exchanges that sell CAKE

We confirmed live CAKE spot markets and, where published, withdrawal networks through each exchange’s public data in October 2026.

Exchange Who can use it CAKE withdrawal networks
Binance Non-US users BNB Chain, Ethereum, Aptos
Binance.US US, not all states; CAKE/USDT pair Check the withdrawal screen
Coinbase US and many other countries Ethereum only
Kraken US (state limits apply) and international Check the withdrawal screen
Bybit, KuCoin, Gate Non-US users Check the withdrawal screen
Robinhood US Price data only; not tradable

The Coinbase detail is the one to watch. If you buy CAKE on Coinbase and withdraw it, you receive the Ethereum version. That is fine for holding, but it will not appear in a BNB Chain wallet, and using it on PancakeSwap’s main BNB Chain pools would mean bridging. If BNB Chain is your destination, an exchange that withdraws BEP-20 CAKE directly saves that step.

So the criteria for choosing: whether the exchange serves your region, the published trading and withdrawal fees, and whether it withdraws CAKE on the chain you want to use.

How to buy PancakeSwap (CAKE) on PancakeSwap with BNB

Buying on the DEX itself avoids an exchange order book and puts CAKE straight into your wallet. You need three things: a wallet that supports BNB Chain, some BNB for gas, and something to swap (usually more BNB or a stablecoin).

1. Set up a BNB Chain wallet

Trust Wallet supports BNB Chain out of the box; MetaMask, Rabby and Binance Wallet also work once BNB Smart Chain is added. Our Trust Wallet review covers that option.

2. Get BNB onto BNB Smart Chain

Buy BNB on an exchange and withdraw it on the network labelled “BNB Smart Chain (BEP20)” or “BSC”. Do not choose the old “BEP2” or “BNB Beacon Chain” label if any platform still shows one; that chain has been retired. Our guide to buying BNB walks through this step. If your funds are on Ethereum instead, see how to bridge ETH to BNB Chain.

3. Swap on pancakeswap.finance

  1. Type pancakeswap.finance yourself or use a bookmark. Don’t click search ads.
  2. Connect the wallet and make sure the network selector shows BNB Chain.
  3. Choose BNB as the input and CAKE as the output. The default CAKE in PancakeSwap’s token list is the official one; if in doubt, paste the BEP-20 contract above.
  4. Check the quoted price impact and the slippage setting. CAKE/BNB is a deep pool, so the default slippage is usually fine for normal sizes.
  5. Confirm in your wallet, keeping a little BNB back for future gas.

Buying CAKE on PancakeSwap’s other chains

PancakeSwap also runs on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, zkSync Era, Linea and Aptos, and you can swap for the local CAKE there using that chain’s gas token (ETH on the Ethereum-based networks). That can be handy if your funds already sit on Arbitrum or Base. The trade-off is liquidity: CAKE pools outside BNB Chain are much smaller, so price impact on a modest order can be noticeably worse. Compare the quote against the BNB Chain price before confirming, and remember the CAKE you receive lives on that chain until you bridge it.

Check the transaction on BscScan if the balance doesn’t appear immediately; you may need to add CAKE as a custom token in some wallets.

What Tokenomics 3.0 changed for CAKE holders

Older guides tell you to lock CAKE for veCAKE to earn boosted farm rewards and vote on emissions gauges. That system is gone. PancakeSwap’s Tokenomics 3.0 went live on April 23, 2025, and:

  • Retired CAKE staking, veCAKE, gauge voting, revenue sharing and farm yield boosting.
  • Unlocked existing positions and gave holders a redemption window (about six months) to convert veCAKE back to CAKE 1:1.
  • Cut daily CAKE emissions in phases and redirected more protocol revenue to burns.
  • Set a goal of roughly 4% annual deflation.

In practical terms, CAKE today is mostly a liquid governance-and-burn token rather than a lock-for-yield token. If you hold old veCAKE positions and missed the redemption window, check PancakeSwap’s official documentation and support channels directly. Be wary of anyone in a chat offering to “unlock” them for you. Any remaining ways to earn with CAKE, such as providing liquidity in CAKE pools, carry the usual impermanent-loss and smart-contract risks, so read the current product pages in the app before committing.

Fake CAKE tokens and lookalike sites

Because PancakeSwap is permissionless, anyone can create a token named “CAKE” or “PancakeSwap Token” and add liquidity for it. Common traps:

  • Lookalike tokens with the CAKE logo but a different contract. On BscScan, the official BEP-20 shows the PancakeSwap token name, a creation date in 2020 and a very large holder count; a fake will show a recent creation date and few holders.
  • Phishing domains that copy the pancakeswap.finance interface, often promoted through search ads or social media replies. They ask you to sign approvals that drain your wallet.
  • “CAKE airdrop” or “veCAKE claim” pages riding on the tokenomics changes. Legitimate changes are announced on PancakeSwap’s official blog and X account.
  • Wrong-chain deposits, such as sending Ethereum CAKE from Coinbase to a BNB Chain address and expecting it to arrive. Because both use 0x addresses, the transfer may “succeed” on Ethereum but you will need to switch your wallet to Ethereum to see it.

If you’ve approved a suspicious contract, revoke the approval using a reputable approval checker and move remaining funds to a new wallet. Report scams to the FBI’s IC3 in the US or your national fraud agency. More coin guides are linked from our how to buy crypto hub.

FAQ

How to buy CAKE in the US?

As of October 2026, Coinbase, Kraken and Binance.US list CAKE for US customers, subject to state restrictions; Robinhood shows the price only. Coinbase withdraws CAKE on Ethereum, not BNB Chain. US users can also swap BNB for CAKE directly on PancakeSwap with a self-custody wallet, though they should check that using a DEX is consistent with their local rules and tax reporting.

Is CAKE on BNB Chain or Ethereum?

Both, plus several other chains. BNB Chain is CAKE’s native network and holds most of its liquidity. The Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, zkSync, Aptos and other versions are official bridged representations. They represent the same token but sit on different chains, so you must use the matching network when sending, receiving or trading.

Can you still stake CAKE?

Not in the old way. Tokenomics 3.0, live since April 2025, retired CAKE staking and veCAKE locks, along with gauge voting and revenue sharing. Holders were given a window to redeem locked positions 1:1. Some earning options, such as liquidity provision, may still be available in the PancakeSwap app; check current product pages for terms and risks.

What is the PancakeSwap token contract address?

On BNB Chain, the official CAKE contract is 0x0e09fabb73bd3ade0a17ecc321fd13a19e81ce82. On Ethereum it is 0x152649ea73beab28c5b49b26eb48f7ead6d4c898. Confirm against CoinGecko and PancakeSwap’s documentation before trading, since fake tokens with the same name and logo exist.
